Meet Ruth - Deschutes County's Newest Coordinator
Written by Hollie Conger
Meet Deschutes County’s newest Education Program Coordinator, Ruth Jones. As the county’s Juntos program coordinator, with help from The Ford Family Foundation, Ruth is responsible for presenting the program details to students, parents, and school faculty. In preparation for Juntos gatherings, Ruth assists with reaching out to families, setting up food, and organizing logistics for each session. While Ruth enjoys facilitating the program’s operations, her favorite part is teaching about the importance of family involvement in the education process. Providing families with the “how to get to college tools”, as Ruth puts it, is the “best part” of what she does during the six week workshops.
Ruth is passionate about giving back to our Latino families and students, and believes this is the most rewarding part of the job. As a former migrant student from California, Ruth understands what it is like to have parents that don’t speak the language. Through the Juntos program, she is hoping to change this for students and families. This is not just a job for Ruth as she takes pride in helping each student succeed as well as empowering students to see their potential. Ruth believes in encouraging students to dream bigger and that the sky is the limit.
In her free time, Ruth loves spending time with her grandkids and exploring new coffee shops with friends. She is a firm believer in the power of knowledge and that it is only effective when shared. Becoming the kind of person who walks the talk with passion and integrity, is who Ruth aspires to be.
As the Deschutes County coordinator, Ruth oversees programs in Sisters, Redmond, Culver, Prineville and La Pine (coming soon!). To learn how to get connected with the Juntos programs in Deschutes County or to contact Ruth, click here.
