Dayton High Juntos Sees its First Graduation
“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” - Cesar Chavez
On December 15th, 2015 Dayton High School saw its first Juntos cohort complete the workshop series as the eleven participating families developed goals and celebrated their graduation along with their dedicated facilitators, and supporters. In celebration, the Juntos families all pitched in to a potluck dinner with delicious Latin American foods. During this last workshop the families also brainstormed topics of interest for future gatherings including “Parenting Teenagers,” “Nutritious Meals,” and more. When given the opportunity to become more involved two students, Ivon and Ivan, stepped up as volunteer leaders of the upcoming Juntos club for their high school, and two moms volunteered to help with the next Juntos cohort. The journey to this particular graduation was made possible in part by the dedication and care from the facilitators, Eileen Morrison and Maria Del Rayo, volunteers, Lorena Alvarez and Vanesa Montalvo, Unidos partner, Sally Godard, and Juntos coordinators, Ana Gomez and José R. García. The Juntos families are very invested in their program’s success and they are thriving!
