Hi, I'm Erika!
Hello, my name is Erika Carrillo (ella, she, her), and I am honored to serve as the Program Coordinator for New Beginnings for Tribal Students (NBTS).
As a first-generation Indigenous scholar, I ground my work in cultural values, land-based learning, and student voice.
I would love to talk with you about what NBTS has to offer and the values that guide our work:
- Our Purpose: Supporting Indigenous and Tribal students through mentorship, scholarships, and culturally grounded opportunities.
- Summer Camp: Supporting high school students with a college-life opportunity at Oregon State University, where youth experience campus, connect with mentors, and begin envisioning themselves as future Beavers and/or college students if OSU is not the right fit for you.
- Student Belonging: Creating spaces where students feel connected to their cultures, communities, and academic journeys.
- Mentorship/Talking Circles: Building relationships across generations with peers, alumni, faculty, and community mentors.
- Cultural Values: Honoring Indigenous sovereignty, knowledge systems, and land-based learning.
- Family & Community Engagement: Inviting families into campus life through tours, gatherings, and collaborative meetings.
- Pathways to Education: Strengthening connections from high school to college and beyond with NBTS clubs, pre-college programs, and camp experiences.
- Equity & Access: Reducing barriers to higher education through financial support, leadership opportunities, and holistic student support.
- Collaboration: Working alongside Indigenous and Tribal Nations, community colleges, and OSU partners.
- Student Voice: Ensuring youth perspectives guide program design, evaluation, and future directions.
